ACBSP certified chiropractors in Smithtown

Promoting the highest standards of excellence and clinical competence for chiropractors specializing in sports medicine and physical fitness

The only way to truly know that you are being served by a Chiropractor who specializes in Sports Medicine is to recognize the suffixes CCSP or DACBSP. These stand for Certified Chiropractic Sports Practitioner or Diplomate in the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Practitioners. This is one of the few post-graduate programs accredited by the National Organization of Accrediting Agencies.

What are the requirements to achieve DACBSP and CCSP certifications?

The DACBSP (Diplomate American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians) certification requires the doctor to first achieve CCSP (Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician) certification. The CCSP requires the doctor to attend a minimum of 100 hours of a 120 hour postgraduate CCSP program. The hours mentioned are class hours. Following the completion of these hours, the doctor must take and successfully pass a comprehensive written examination to receive the CCSP certification.

Once CCSP status has been achieved, the doctor may work toward DACBSP certification. To do so, the doctor must attend an additional minimum of 200 class hours. Doctors wishing to achieve DACBSP status then have four basic components they must successfully complete within 3 years of completion of the DACBSP Program. Approximately 1/2 of 1 percent of Doctors have gone on to obtain this prestigious designation.

The four components are:

  • DACBSP Written Examination
  • DACBSP Practical Examination
  • DACBSP Practical Experience Requirement
  • DACBSP Written Requirement Project

To give someone a better appreciation of the type of study this would encompass, the curriculum guidelines include but are not limited to the following:

  • Exercise Physiology
  • Rehabilitation of Athletes
  • Biomechanics
  • Diagnostic Imaging
  • Functional Taping and Bracing
  • Sport Psychology
  • Advanced Soft Tissue Techniques
  • Emergency Procedures
