Graston Technique

Graston Technique in Smithtown

The Leading Soft-Tissue Therapy Technique

Originally developed by athletes, Graston Technique® is an interdisciplinary treatment used by more than 15,000 clinicians worldwide—including physical and occupational therapists, hand therapists, chiropractors, and athletic trainers.

This technique is a soft tissue diagnostic and therapeutic method that has been used in outpatient clinics since 1993. Similar to A.R.T., Graston manipulates soft tissue, however it employs surgical stainless steel instruments which improve the Doctor’s tactile sensation and increase the efficiency of treatment. The instruments act as a focused extension of the doctor’s own hands while reducing wear and tear on the hands.

When connective tissue, such as muscle, ligaments or tendons become restricted or scarred, it can result in pain, tenderness, loss of flexibility and motion. It is not unusual to find a restriction in one part of the body that produces pain and dysfunction in another area, commonly known as the kinetic chain. Hospitals, clinics, university and professional sports teams rely on the Graston Technique® for the treatment of injuries.
